Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mariam Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi, participated today in the opening session of a training workshop for the staff of the National Commission for Human Rights and other state institutions, in the presence of Attorney General Mubarak Mahmoud and Executive Director of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions Sultan Bin Hassan Al Jamali and representatives of state institutions and civil society organizations concerned with promotion of human rights.
In her address, the Minister of Foreign Affairs referred to the importance of this initiative in light of a transitional period that Sudan is going through that requires concerted efforts and strengthening capacity-building, especially in the field of human rights, indicating that the government has been keen to implement the tasks of the transitional period stipulated in the Constitutional Document in order to achieve the principles of the glorious December Revolution top of which is the establishment of national commissions, including the National Commission for Human Rights, in accordance with the Paris Principles 1993.
The Minister reiterated the government’s keenness on the pivotal role of the National Human Rights Commission as the independent national monitor over the human rights situation in the country, reaffirming the government’s commitment to promoting and improving the human rights situation in Sudan in cooperation with national, regional and international mechanisms.
