Economic Relations between Sudan and Britain Discussed

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mariam Al-Saddiq Al-Mahdi, Monday received a phone call from the Minister of African Affairs at the British Foreign Office, James Duddridge.

 Dr. Mariam has expressed the great gratitude of the transitional government for the support that the British government has been providing since the glorious December revolution and its active participation in the Berlin Conference, and for Britain’s support to Sudan with 150 million sterling pounds as a bridge loan to pay Sudan arrears to the African Development Bank.

She also praised the support extended by Britain, pointing to the high percentage of beneficiaries of the program

The two sides discussed ways to reactivate the economic and trade activities between Sudan and Britain, especially after the name of Sudan was removed from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, and the measures taken by the government for economic  reform the economic structure and create appropriate environment, such as the unification of the local currency exchange rate and approval of the new investment law, the dual financial system act, and the draft law on partnership between the public and private sectors.

The minister also expressed Sudan desire to join the trade agreements concluded by Britain with some African countries following its exit from the European Union.

She also stressed the need to reactivate the academic cooperation between the two countries and to qualify Sudanese teachers.

The two ministers assured the importance of consolidating the cooperation between Sudan and the United Kingdom in the political, economic, academic and cultural fields and resumption of the strategic dialogue between the two friendly countries, scheduled in next August.
