The Head of the United Nations Integrated Transitional Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), Volker Perthes has disclosed that the agreement of the IMF for Sudan’s joining the Highly Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) is important step that will lead to its debt relief.
Volker wrote on his Tweeted account, Wednesday, “ The move will open spheres of cooperation with development and funding partners to back up sustainable development , combat poverty and increase investment”
A reliable IMF official expected that Sudan’s debt drops to about $6 billion upon completion of the HIPC Program.The IMF quoted by Reuters as saying” “Sudan has reached the decision point to start debt relief under HIPC Program”
