Undersecretary of Justice delivers(recorded) speech before Geneva-based Human Rights Council

The Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice, Maulana Howida Ali Awad Al-Karim, , delivered, Today a recorded speech via the Internet before the session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva.

Maulana Howeda thanked the delegations of the countries participated in reviewing Sudan’s third report before the universal periodic review at the fortieth session of the Human Rights Council, which highlighted the progress made by Sudan in promoting and protecting human rights, and the challenges it faces in fulfilling its obligations.

The Acting Undersecretary expressed her appreciation over all the “constructive” interventions and recommendations made during the session, adding that they will study and review them with the concerned bodies and institutions carefully in order to make a decision on them at the fiftieth session of the Human Rights Council.

She described the comprehensive review mechanism as a mechanism of specialty because it provides a platform for constructive discussion, based on equality among all countries, stressing her conviction that the recommendations presented will help formulate future programs aimed at promoting human rights in Sudan, expressing her desire for fruitful cooperation and technical assistance from the international community to implement the recommendations, in light of the economic challenges imposed by the Corona pandemic.

 The Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Justice thanked the role of the chairperson of the session for the effort made to hold the session despite the challenges that surrounded it.

 She also thanked the Troika countries for the efforts they made to prepare the report, expressing her gratitude to the General Secretariat of the Review Working Group, the General Secretariat of the Human Rights Council, the interpreters and all those working for the continuous efforts.
